if it's a local spot, I Would recheck
that area on occasion.

Although I Never heard of it
happening, I wonder if it
Could be water movement
depositing the coins in that spot.

Or is there a Bridge or Pier there ?
perhaps a Wishing Spot.

I would assume this is water that does not have tides or a current. With tides it is not uncommon to find a hole with all quarters or all dimes..etc. But with the different weights of the coins involved it would be highly unlikely to deposit all those coins in one area unless there was a feature that caught them such as a rock or pylon.
