Excellent weather, (at least for January), so I just had to be out.
I didn't have a solid plan for where to try so I just winged it.

I didn't have a lot of time so I just tried a few clad-factories.
Not much. Then, I remembered a permission that had a wooded
lot. The place is a real garbage pit. Figuratively and physically.

As I went along, I uncovered a bottle. Just an old beer bottle but
an idea clicked. HEY! BOTTLE HUNT! I turned off the detector and started
scraping back some of the mulch. They were everywhere! :)

These are just a couple I decided to keep. Mostly 50's 60's.
BUT....these were laying on top of the ground, just under the leaves!
The area does have some history too! I'm sure there
are deeper, older ones. Another option! How about that?! :)

This one was kind of special to me:

I grew up using this very brand. :)

So, remember, when things are going slow.
Think outside of the box. I had a good time!

Thanks for peeking!

Heck yeah Mixing up a hunt to scratch up old glass? Anytime!
Old glass led to a detecting site one year ,when not detecting......

Very cool find! way to improvise.

Congrats Whadi, maybe I should have gone to my trashy woods site, like you did. Instead opted to hit some curb strips in a town 20 miles away as well as going to a few parks. It was great to hunt in low 60's temps here in Ohio on Sunday.

Oh, I dunno. Who's to say that your curb strips or choice of parks might not have led to something big. It's just a good thing to not get into the same old patterns. Best to be thinking out there. Keep your eyes and ears open!

I just happened to be trying these woods and I kept kicking the hints that it was trying to tell me, out of my way. Finally, after kicking one bottle that looked a little older. It dawned on me what it was trying to tell me. :)

Thanks!

Nice job on the bottle saves

Nice hunt - I still remember the smell of that kind of shoe polish!

Great post. It's always fun to pick a cool old bottle up off the ground that has lain there for 40, 50 years untouched. I gotta go find me some woods now! Suppose to be 70 and sunny today.

Very nice Whadi. Bottles are treasure also. I stumbled across a situation like yours last Fall. I was detecting and started to notice a bottle here and a bottle there. I soon shut off my detector and ended up with 43 bottles which are now nicely displayed in a case in my dining room. Looks like you had a great hunt.

Yep, and smells are the MOST powerful memory stimulants!
Thanks!

Just look for ones that were near to a farmhouse, but far enough away. Before there were
trashmen, there was a convenient woods. ;)
Thanks!

I've always kept an eye out for old bottles/glassware. There's nothing quite like them for
getting a picture of a past time. And...."fragile as glass", just isn't all that true.

Thanks, all, for the kind words.

I found some white jars just a few days ago while detecting a new spot in the woods. Are yours Ponds jars too?

Metal detecting turns to bottle digging.... love it! Good hunt.

OMG! You should've been here tonight! I started cleaning this one up and (of course), the solid ball of rust of a cap
disintegrated as soon as I touched it. BUT guess what!! You could still SMELL the polish!!! OH WHAT A RUSH OF MEMORIES!! LOLOLOL!!

Memory triggers like that can make you feel like a kid again! ;D

Nothing wrong with a little switching it up now & then.
Paid nice dividends! Congrats!
Especially the memories.

I remember Hires root beer & the ponds cold cream jars

Looks like those two are happily occupied with treasures if their own.

A great walk and kick in the leaves, brings some treasured memories indeed! 😁

......maybe i've been inside a little too long...i think i'm fermenting!

Glad to see you had a good day and hunt! :icon_thumleft:

Just getting out for a bit makes all the difference in the world! :occasion14:
