Same thing happened to me. Found an old black dime in the clad pile and took a really good look at it.... 1964 dime :laughing7:

Always good to triple check your finds. Its probably happened to most of us. I once found a coin in a yard, that I was sure was going to be a Large Cent because of how dark and crusted it was. Imagine my surprise when I got home, started cleaning it, and found out it was a Barber Quarter, that was in a fire. Glad you saved that War Nickel.

Nice save. I agree it pays to look at them a few times before deciding which pile to put them in.

I ran a bunch of clad thru the rock tumbler to clean them up, found two silver rosies in them. gotta love those kind of surprises

Since I started beach hunting, I have put a few ‘clad’ coins in the pouch that needed to go elsewhere.

1 being a king Edward dime, and 1 being a Washington quarter that was black green red w corrosion on the date. After everything dried out, still looked clad. Scrapped the edge and saw silver!
