A little 14 K Today

Pete and I hit a beach that is hammered to death. There was lots of people in the water and nice looking gold everywhere.

I hunted with the PI machine so I could get deeper than the vlh machines and it paid off in a nice 14K band and a very small 10K earring....

You know it hard to tell when your in the water chest deep. As you dig sometimes the sand falls back in the hole but I was taking 6-7 full scoops with the nuttall, so they were pretty deep. Pete and I feel that the seahunter is actually deeper than the Garrett LS, of course both have a 12X14" coil but the LS is a DD so you get better coverage but not the depth that the seahunter gets , but it still goes plenty deep.

As you know everyone misses targets you have to be lucky to have your coil pass over it no matter what you have. I am sure you have turned around and gone back the way you just came and will hit on more targets.

I didn't make that statement to put down the ex cal. or any other machine. I was just making a statement that the PI's will go deeper than a VLF machine, the ex cal. is a awesome machine...

No they are just plastic

i believe that right now that most targets are not that deep i scuba with my excal and sea hunter and the depth on both machine are about the same

I would say that the seahunter is deeper than the ex cal. and by all rights it should be, much bigger coil (10X14) and a PI machine. I have hunted with the ex cal. a awesome machine but I don't feel its any match in all honesty. My hunting partner Pete (erikk) uses all three machines and also feels the same as me that the seahunter goes deeper than the LS and both the LS and seahunter go deeper than the ex cal. or my beachhunter300 with the 12" coil.

I only use the PI machine at clean beaches or ones that are hunted to death. The beach we were at today gets anywhere from 20-50 hunter per week, and most in the water. That is why we started using the PI's there to get deeper than everyone else and it seems to work. If it didn't I wouldn't be finding the amount of hooper's and coins I am finding way down there. Will be interesting to see how you make out with your test...

I have a Excal 2, an Excal 1000, an Infinium LS & a Sea Hunter 2 I hunt them all The SH2 & LS are deeper than either Excal no matter what mode U use. I hunt the PI machines in fairly clean areas & the Excals in the rest. I like the Excal 2 in areas where there may B gold chains as neither PI will hit in them and areas of heavy bottle caps.
The LS has a pretty steep learning curve but once U get it it is a killer for depth & coverage. I did have some issues with my first 2 LS machines but Garrett made it right & I now have one that works as it should
Bottom line is each has it's + & - & U gotta run the coil over it 2 find it no matter what U use

6-7 scoops and you were still able to type and move your arms? I am just now working out my soreness from my marathon hunt last weekend. I tell you I was so sore I did not want to move for days.
I need to get my PI out soon and run it against the excal and see what I come up with.

this is a great example of the depth of the excal in all metal mode

If I watched the right one part 1 & 2 he never dug over four scoops deep and most of them weren't even in the same spot and it doesn't appear that his scoop is that big? Thats not deep to me sorry..

Yea, I guess U R right I only started detecting in 1962, certified SCUBA in 1972, was water detecting before water machines were out Bill Mahan ( D-Tex Detectors) made me an adapter so I could use a land machine in the water (a BFO TRY that sometime) Used that till Whites came out with the aquanaut powered by a 6 volt lantern battery
I don't need 2 watch the video I can make them. U stick with your Excal in sanded in places & I will walk right behind U with a PI & get what U can't reach .
PS I also have 5 land machines & I can run those 2 but probably not as good as U

Guys you all are trying to compare apples to oranges here.

1. Excal with either a 8 or 10 inch coil = DD
2. Ls with a 10x14= DD
3. Sh2 with a 10x14 mono elip = conical

both #1 and 2 have the ability to hit deep BUT there call to fame is a long coverage area per sweep both DD

#3 since its a conical shape output coil the deeper it see`s the smaller footprint it see`s \ /

Of the 3 the excal and ls will cover more ground faster and more thoughly but not as deep both DD

Of #1 & #2 the excal using reverse disc can hit as deep as the LS w/DD coil but its call to fame is disc for trashy areas

The Ls and SH2 with the same coil would/should hit just as deep, but between a DD versus a Mono the mono would hit deeper

Of the 3 the mono is going to see deeper for smaller gold & targets but as stated earlier it has a smaller footprint as it see`s deeper, requiring more overlap per sweep to fully cover an area, check out the gold forums its a known fact pertaining to mono coils

Most gold hunters use the DD in hot areas (more stable) and the mono`s in quieter areas to see deeper for the smaller gold flakes and nuggets. Even though the gold hunters are using coils up to twice the size of us the operating principle is still the same.
