Metal Detecting
Hello. This is my first post here. I’m just getting into the hobby, but already love it! I thought I would share a story of some beginner’s luck and see if anyone else had any similar experiences.

(Note: this story isn’t that amazing compared to some that I’ve read on here…but just kind of cool…and it definitely gave me quite a bit of false hope… haha)

So I thought I’d give metal detecting a try and started by borrowing an old one my dad had (I think it was comparable to a Bounty Hunter Quick Silver – not very good). So I go out in my front yard and try it out. The first thing I found was a clad penny, I pick it up and keep going. It goes off again, and probably a half inch under the ground was a 1935 Mercury Dime. I had a total of 20 SECONDS of metal detecting experience to that point! I’ve put in maybe 30 hours of detecting since then…and so far, that has been my best find.

When I found that, I was thinking, ‘Man…this is going to be easy!’

Welcome to Tnet! Beginner's luck is usually beginer's blissful ignorance.....You just don't know enough not to dig the iffy signals so you find stuff others would pass over. A lesson for all of us is to dig if you have any doubt at all.

That is VERY Cool....hell, it took me 9 months of detecting before I found my First Silver coin!

I started MDing in late spring. I had a list with 7 or 8 coins that I really wanted to dig. #1 was a merc dime. Its still hiding out there somewhere. Congratulations and welcome to Tnet!
