Primary Interest:
Relic Hunting
Today I got back to a site that was owned by a turn coat in 1814, he was with the British then he decided to switch sides. He burnt all his out buildings in 1814 so the British could not use his buildings to hide in. I have been detecting this site for 10 years, there was a trading post across the road near the river. This is where they brought the wounded soldiers in 1812, we have found several pewter eagle buttons, several old coins. There is talk that the Americans may have been minting British coins there in that time period, there was half a coin mold found on this site. I did find a blank copper with what looks like the beginning of a crown. Today I found these items, the triangle peace is my first trade silver I think, the brass item I think came off a musket, the pewter button came out of the ground just the colour it is, the two musket balls are, 50 cal., 69cal. this is American ball, they were on this location in 1813 time period. I have found cut silver there other times, but not to day. NT

Very nice finds there Brian! :hello2:
I hope that piece turns out to be 'trade silver' for you!
Dave

I just found this on the internet and thought about your find Brian.

"INDIAN TRADE SILVER, A silver "Delta" shaped earring that is holed in one tip. c. 1780 - 1800 and dug in the southeast. What's interesting about this piece is it was recycled from probably an arm band noting the old designs that run vertically."

I always thought these buttons that look like silver were good quality pewter, if not pewter what might the material be? I have found other buttons just like this one.

Thanks for the info, I am not sure if it is silver, I read that it could be German silver, nickle silver? The article says that the early peaces 1750- 1780 period were plain, 19th century more decorative.Nt

There are no marks, I figure it was used for an ear peace or a link for something that hung around the neck. This area where it came from has alot of early history, this is the same area where I found my copper spear points. Here are acouple of finds from the area, the slate item I not sure what it is, but the other is a trade bowl I was told, no idea other than that. HH
