Better yet, go to the easy places and leave messages that you found it. some searcher will find your note and make it public and they will all quit and you will be the only one left searching

The other day I stumbled across someone that posted what all the clues supposedly meant by tracing backwards from where it was apparently found. I’ll see if I can find it but his explanation was as confusing as the poem.

An incredible bait and switch scam I wouldn't believe unless I saw it with my own eyes. There’s no treasure inside and somewhere some guy must be still laughing…

You can’t make this stuff up but now here is an amazing bait and switch story. There’s a guy who wrote a book about 5 treasure boxes hidden across the US - worth millions of dollars. He hid them and wrote a supposed blueprint of clues to find them. Ah, you say, that’s sounds a lot like the Forrest Fenn treasure, and yes, it is. But Forrest wrote a poem/riddle that was almost impossible to crack. More about that later.

Ok so I decide to get a copy of “There's Treasure Inside Book by Jon Collins-Black.” I go on to E-bay and see there is a PDF copy for sale and buy it. Well I get the PDF and start looking at what is inside. At first, I thought this whole thing is a scam because it was a book about positive thinking and your inner power blah, blah, blah. It went on for 542 pages and used actual cover of the real book. I fact, I think it was 3 books in one. What a deal! But none of it was about treasure. He just used the cover of real book and placed something totally unrelated inside the book.



So I did some research and found someone who made a video of himself, paging through the real book, showing the photos and some pages in the book. This was definitely not the book that I purchased. So I wondered. Was this person using a ‘bestselling’ title to sell his own book? Or was this work actually someone else’s work that he borrowed for convenience’s sake? I really don’t know but I thought how much audacity was at play here. The actual book is 244 pages. It opened up so many questions in my mind.

Naturally, I contacted the real author and let him know what was going on with his book. He rewarded me with no response at all, and I guess he thought I was some prankster, or is really just too busy counting all the money he is making off this book to answer me. Fair enough.

Now I have lost all interest in this book. And before you run out and buy this new book, just as with the highly contested book on found, hidden treasure of “The Thrill of the Chase: A Memoir by Forrest Fenn” – consider these factors. And oh, by the way, a full documentary on the Fenn Treasure was made on Netflix called ‘GOLD AND GREED.’ It’s a pretty interesting documentary. Back to the factors I believe could be in play.

• There’s no proof anything is hidden anywhere just photos of supposed treasure.
• A tag team could be involved in hiding the treasure and then recovering the treasure.
• As long as actual location with GPS coordinates is not released when treasure is found, this is very convenient for a story that could be an amazing work of fiction.
• The treasure may not be in the location until right before it is found. You’ll never find what is not there! OMG would someone do that? You tell me.
• This is a great way to sell books and some people are willing to do anything to make a buck.
• Realize that 5 treasure hunters died trying to find the Fenn Treasure. Some people lost everything looking for this treasure. Some got divorced. Many were convinced they knew exactly where the treasure was hidden, as shown in documentary. But they came up empty handed. One guy searched for 780 days. (780 days X 8 hours = 6,240 hours). This is what happens when you become obsessed with finding what seems to be a ‘sure thing’ – if you can locate it. Easy on paper – not so easy in real life.
• I don‘t believe in the recovered Fenn Treasure (after 10 years and 5 deaths) at all, as told to us. And after this experience, I don’t believe there is 5 treasure boxes hidden across the US. I’ll take this experience as a sign to me. Gullible people can believe what they want to believe about so called hidden treasures. I was just looking for some amusing, entertainment in the book I had acquired. I guess that I got it!
• This short story is especially for authors – to make them aware of an incredible scam that might be used on one of your books. It’s one thing to be selling your actual book, it’s quite another to just use the cover and place something totally unrelated inside the book.

• These are strictly my opinions on so called purposely hidden treasures that come with a book. This story is factual, and I have the PDF and purchase receipt to prove it. The seller has long since disappeared from E-bay. I guess so because I used Paypal to pay for it, and disputed the transaction – that’s the only way to buy on E-bay. My refund came swiftly.
• They were running around looking for purposely, hidden treasures. And then they all died. The end.

I have never been a fan of such ventures they do more harm than good. Its pseudo form of gambling you buy the book in the hope of finding treasure in which seem harmless but its destructive on many levels.

Like my brother that tried to help someone by giving to a GoFundMe but he gave to one where a scammer copied everything off the real one (he got his money back). But everything I’ve seen about this one is he’s legit, if not they’ve fooled a lot of people, including Mysterious Writings, etc.

Mine got shipped to Oklahoma right as I moved to Texas and disappeared when my parents moved, but I’ve seen screen shots of the inside and it doesn’t sound like anything you described.

well I imagine some purchased this book and didn't even realize it was a counterfeit book. The cover photos were correct but the entire inner contents of book were totally bogus. It hard to imagine someone trying to pull this off with another author's book cover. But that's what some are doing.

well I watched Quarter Hoarder's Thursday video release this week, and lo, and behold he had the author of this new treasure hunt book on for a interview. After watching the author's talk about his book, I decided to reconsider buying the book. So I went to Amazon, and guess what? It's 50% off right now. So I brought a copy. Just finished O'Reilly's 'Confront the Presidents' (a slow read) 417 pages but interesting.

well I hope you do! I just got the book today and paged through it looking at photos. In reading short blips here and there in book, It looks like one area that may that be in play is the Appalachian Trail, which is a mere 2200 miles. Then saw a passage saying no box is more than 3 miles from road or trail. So let's say that is one search area site. If it is, that's 3 miles either way off trail (6 miles) times 2200 possible miles of trail = 13,200 miles in total area. And no where above do I say "this is where one of the boxes is definitely buried." But it could be.
Let's get crackin' all you wild goose chasers! LOL
If I narrow it down to a more reasonable search area through reading the entire book, I'll let you know. Might as well put this idle IQ of 135 to some constructive use. L

ok wild goose chasers, found something odd in this book.
Page 90 is missing! At first, I thought ok it's part of a GPS location and looked for other missing pages. There were none. At this point, I think it may indicate it means when you on the correct path, the big box is 90 paces from path.
Also noted that these pages (usually photo of treasure with black background) have a page number: 24, 36, 62, 82, 105, 107, 111, 157, 170, 177, 184, 192, 200
while these pages have no page number: 8, 18, 26, 38, 46, 56, 64, 70, 76, 85, 86, 95, 101, 109, 115, 123, 133, 138, 141, 151, 159, 165, 171, 173, 179, 188, 189, 195,199.
So consider pages with black backgrounds with no page number vrs.
pages with black backgrounds with a golden page number.
I stopped recording them at page 200. I this significant? Maybe.
Author mentions playing Escape room puzzles - which I am not familiar with at all. He also stated in his children's book, "Our Unbreakable Thread" he has an extra clue or two about the location of treasure. Isn't
that just like an author to try and get you to buy a second book.

I'm on page 100 and so far I see no obvious clues to the largest treasure box. He does mention growing up in North Carolina and gives a more detailed write up of a place he went as kid to dig up rocks. But so far, I see no real clues that would remotely take one to this box.
Unless he has managed to be as obscure as Forrest Fenn's poem, which to me as a poet was absolute B.S. Anyone can write a poem that no one but the author really know what it means. That's the beauty of poetry, it can mean something different to everyone who reads it. But I digress. And that's my take so far on this book. Very nice photos BTW.

Sometimes even if there isn't a treasure there , the "treasure " is just getting out and forgetting about all what's happening around us in this "troubled world " and enjoying our surroundings that we don't think of as we stumble through life's adventure's !

I'm afraid that's all this really is in the end. He'll make a killing on book sales and he might hide some treasure after he makes his millions...
