I was in southeastern British Columbia and had been fly fishing in a river when I noticed a small bit of whitish color peaking up from the gravel. It was buried and I had to dig it out and was surprised to find this bone. It's very, very smooth without rough edges. I don't know what it might be from or how old it might be. I would love the mystery solved! Thanks so much!

What part of BC.
Thinking about fossils that have come different regions of the province.

I don't think it's a horse's tooth. It's quite large. Thanks though!
Horse teeth can actually be pretty large (even larger than the one pictured). I'm not a tooth expert, but looking again, that center ridge makes it look like maybe cow or bison.

You're right about the size of horse teeth being large. I was looking at bison teeth and it could be one. Although, I was in a remote area of the Rockies fly fishing, and don't think many cows (not sure about bison) were in that particular area.

It's a bovid molar. The stylid appears to be isolated from the main body of the tooth (as arrowed below) which means there's an extremely high probability that it's bison rather than cow.

Southeastern British Columbia near the Montana border.
Worked in that area Sparwood through to Fernie, Crowsnest Pass.
Up on the Columbia to Golden all on the Railway.

Just needed to add. Red-Coat is a store house of knowledge. As are some others, such as cannon ball guy and Mackaydon. Interesting eye ball find there Malenkai
