now that is cool...a new country born.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

JUBA, South Sudan (AP) — South Sudanese citizens, international dignitaries and the world's newest president are convening in the new country capital of Juba to celebrate the birth of a nation.

South Sudan became the world's newest country Saturday with a raucous street celebration at midnight.

Dignitaries including U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell will watch under a blazing sun as South Sudan President Salva Kiir hosts a noon-hour ceremony.

South and north Sudan battled two civil wars over more than five decades, culminating in a 2005 peace deal that led to Saturday's independence declaration.

Sudan President Omar al-Bashir, the former leader of the south, is also to attend Saturday's ceremony

There's always Hope!

Good for our neighbor brothers and sisters, who can rise above oppression!
It's just another name for bullying, but in adult form, and usually with a lot worse consequences!

2 civil wars
alot of people died for that new country

South Sudan is now the smallest country in the world. Think about it ! They will get a vote in the UN along with other countries. Maybe each of our states should get a vote also ! As these unstable countries break up, they gain more and more controll over the world. It seems that more and more groupes that want the world run by their religious or essnick rules are taking over the UN.
Something to think about. Frank

I wonder if it will be a democracy with human rights, or another corrupt dictatorship like the majority of Africa ?

Let's try to all hope and pray for the best, see the good that can come from this.

Surely, if a dictator or dictatorship raises it's ugly head, or things not of good arise, let it be recognized immediatly, seen for what it is, and handled in the proper fashion.

Prayers, peace, and Love for world's newest country! :hello:

I wonder what their slogan will be? ( ya know, like land of free, home of brave, sorta thing) :laughing7:

Well I wish them a ton of luck, that's a tough part of the world.

Anyway, I wonder how long it will take them to have their hands out for something :dontknow: :tongue3:

I am sure the hand is already out and receiving

Pat--cat, Your are a beautiful dreamer, and I a realist. Those who wait and see what happens, often times don't like what they see. Just my thoughts. Frank

Farmer chick, Have you been peeping at classified documents again? Frank

I'm a peeper...make that a Dr. Peeper :laughing9: :laughing9:

doesn't every country owe money to another country, in fact, a few countries...so everyone owes everyone and I have to think someone is 'funding' this little new country for 'some' reason

It appears that most of the money is owed to China these days. Frank

let them try and get their money :laughing7: :laughing7:

didn't Greece just say, hey, we are out of money, no one is getting paid?

I think Greece just got a refill. Frank

South Sudan has oil - how long do you think it will be before the US invades?

The US won't invade, but China will be quite happy to pay off whatever politicians are in control of the country's resources. Dictators especially like China, because they have the cash, and aren't concerned with what happens within the country as human rights go.

Northern Sudan is mostly muslim with close ties to the arab world, Southern Sudan is mostly Christian. Before the two countries were seperated the north dominated the south and took the oil to further their own ends without much of the profit being spent on or in the south.
I pray for wisdom for the new government of Southern Sudan and that their motivation will be for the betterment of their people.
