Did a walk not too far from home today, a swamp stopped me cold in my tracks from going where I wanted to go so I putzed around close to my truck and started getting some finds , first one gave me hope, an early 1800s gilt button, but all relics after that were newer. The coolest find of the morning was a small padlock with a sash chain attached. It has a patent date of Sep 19 1882 on it and I found the same lock was posted years ago by sscindercoop, so I hope he sees this post. Here is his post on the same padlock: http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/what/142518-padlock.html

That's a great find. I love finding old locks. Wishing you continued success

I like old padlocks, & that's a very nice one.

Pretty sure your padlock is made by Ames Sword Co. Sweet little lock.

That is an awesome little lock:icon_thumright:

I like the lock Don. I always think about what it might have been on when i find a lock. Were you looking for anything in particular when you were so rudely interrupted by the swamp?

It was just an exploratory hunt, nothing in particular to find, just hoped I would stumble upon a small unknown, virgin homestead, but I sure did not feel like trudging thru a cedar swamp to get there, I thought there was an old corduroy road going thru the swamp, but no evidence of such. May try again during a drier time of the year.

I'm amazed at the size of the lock....compared to the Indian penny, I wonder what it was used for

Seems they were made for a specific purpose, but darn if I can think of what that could have been.

Hey don , I love the lock. Bartek just dig a B&O Railroad lock
The next day I dug a six lever lock
Hh gl
