Did a walk not too far from home today, a swamp stopped me cold in my tracks from going where I wanted to go so I putzed around close to my truck and started getting some finds , first one gave me hope, an early 1800s gilt button, but all relics after that were newer. The coolest find of the morning was a small padlock with a sash chain attached. It has a patent date of Sep 19 1882 on it and I found the same lock was posted years ago by sscindercoop, so I hope he sees this post. Here is his post on the same padlock: http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/what/142518-padlock.html

Don - what is that large object in the upper right of the 2nd pic - a bell of some sort? I have a couple of those and was curious. Nice job on the lock too.
I think it is the upper part of a bicycle bell.
