Our club here had an outing at an old mining town called Winkelman Az. and here are some of the finds. An old mining tag from the Arizona Smelting and Refining Co probably dating to the early 1900's, a small bell marked with Harley Davidson, small pile of clad coins, a Shell Co. presidential token for William Taft, a copper quarter sized slug used to cheat vending machines, some whatsits with a piece of melted silver on the right of the three items. The rings and wheats were a previous hunt. The Wheats are 1919, 1929d, 1944. The silver round was won by me after the 2 hour hunt. We have an old large key that is buried and searched for and the finder wins a silver round. Just a monthly tradition our club does. The ring on the left is costume jewelry and the one on the right is marked 18k HGE. Both cheap rings. HGE means heavy gold electroplate. It was a nice day and easy digging for Arizona, as we have had some rain lately in the desert. Thanks for looking and stay warm up there in the frozen North. Cool finds and congrats on winning the silver round! Enjoy the warmth. It’s been unusually cold in PA, most turf frozen to 3”, except wooded areas.

Your star piece may well be pot metal , I bought three exactly like that at a garage sale - on the underside mine had what looked like the reverse of Walking Liberty half dollars , when I attempted to melt the "Chicago screw " off the back with my torch , I was quickly aware that these are a pot metal with a very low temperature melting point . You did have a great day out though , nicely done.

Here's what a real ones looks like. They often used a Mexican silver coin to make it. Gary

Thank you. I don't miss the temps and snow back in Pa. Worked out in that for 34 years for a telephone company.

Thanks, Tommy. Just enjoying the warm weather here.

Very cool finds! I am from the nearby town of Mammoth and San Manuel. Our family moved after the Magma copper mine shut down In San Manuel. We moved north to the White Mountains. It is perfect weather for getting out down there right now!
