Right at dark I got a good hit which I thought would be another 50 cal shell or maybe a musket ball. I turned the soil over and saw a nice size disk shaped object . I could not see any more due to the night catching me but I thought it was a meldallion or something. When I got back to the car I saw what it was ! A nice large roman coin! Wow ,talking about happy. I could not believe it . There are some roman areas close but I was not on a roman site. They had such a large empire that a lot of these coins are common but they are all valuable to me. :) I have found some roman coins before but this one is readable!Any information on this coin would be great. I Had some other digs but nothing grand. This is a great hobby! Being able to touch history is an amazing thing!Hope all have a great thanks giving and HH. :)

Sweet! I recently purchased a group of Roman coins from a fellow TNet'er. Obviously I will never dig anything like that on this side of the pond...you are fortunate! Good luck dating and identifying this find!

HOORAH Birdman! What a great find. I hope a Roman coin is among my finds when I detect in Europe next March.
Keep the stories and the photos coming.

Hi Birdman, your very nice Roman coin looks to me like a AE follis of Diocletian 284-305AD, the reverse is GENIO POPVLI ROMANI (dont ask me what that means), Nice coin though, post some more if you find them, hope this helps.

great find!!! Congratulations- most of coins I found are in worse shape than this roman coin- Really very nice surprise!!
