I hit a place where I've pulled out lots minie balls, rounds balls, and a 1/2 real. I didn't find any coin from that period today, but I did score either '87 or '97 V Nickel. Across the street at a new permission I found the US army button. The hoe in the photo was about 1.5' deep. And the other item was also deep but IDK what it is, any thoughts? It's curved but I think it's too big to be a cannon ball fragment?

Well done !

It's up to you but ...
We always cleaned Nickel's with Very Fine Steel Wool.
Someone on TNet posted that they soak their Nickel's in "Go-Jo" hand cleaner overnight.
He showed some before and after results - they came out great !
I'm going to try it myself.

Thanks. The old nickels here always come out looking like this one. I think I will try cleaning it up. Thanks for the tips!
