Quartz will do that but in this case you can see the stuff on top of the rock and the sides are not glowing.

Certain rocks and minerals glow different colors under uv light.
365nw
340nw
310nw
255nw
If ya get 1 of each of those lights you'll find some neat stuff.
You can start with a cheap light and then move up.
Convoy c8... a great 365nw light
The rest is recommend Stimac/ perkyboxes.kom.Currently they are sold out of most lights.
Prices range from 45-280 on thier site. I snagged the last mini 255nw light today and upgrading once they have more stock.
Id also recommend lights from yooperlites.kom. ordered my convoy from them.

I’m not aware of ANY “fluorescent” paint glowing under UV light. Am I missing something completely because I only use my eyes and don’t look for the paint under UV light at night? If so can anyone in the construction industry explain how they use “ fluorescent” paint using UV light??! I. E “Fluorescent Orange” Upside down paint.

I bought a good quality 365 uv light and walked the river bank for hours looking for glow rocks.

I must have scanned a hundred thousand rocks. Nothing. Zip. Then on my way back I see a glow from under some brush!

So I guess the glow rocks from the north didn’t make it this far south. Oh well. Anyone need a hardly used uv light? Three battery model and I have 3 extra batteries also. PM me if you’re interested!

Where are you located? The uv beast is a good light. Make sure its dark out! The darker the better. You also may try getting the light closer to the rocks.
Im in GA. I got a super cheap 365nm light. Went outside and found nothing! Well next day I grabbed a few rocks and cleaned them and put the light closer and I got colors! Next think I knew i ordered 2 stimac's 255nw, 310nw, a Convoy c8 from yooperlites, and a UV max 365 and will be adding more! Mostly in 255 and 310. 255 you'll get great results and find rocks others miss.
Now im all about rockhounding! Ill be going for atleast 1 day in April to Graves mountain hunting. Id be there all three days,but the wife has a flight on the 19th or 20th?
Dont give up yet! Keep the light.

If I hadn't just ordered a ton of lights and more when they restock. Id take it in a second! I love flashlights and these uv lights are my new thing! I will add atleast 2 uv Beasts to my arsenal for sure!

That light is a good choice for finding yooperlites! I did a quick Google search and you definitely have uv reactive rocks there. Just wait until its really dark out or during the day just grab cool rocks and see if they glow when you get home.
Once you find one you'll be hooked!

I guess it’s possible. Several years ago I drove from Branson MO down into AR. Stopped at a little roadside museum. It was in an old house. In a large closet, they had shelves of rocks. When you closed the door the black lights came on. It was amazing how they looked. I’m not sure where the rocks came from. Here, we have the glacial till from the WI glacier. Usually, any rock found along the shore of Lake Michigan can be found here. I’ve heard a few yoopers have been found there so that’s why I bought the light and started looking. I’m definitely looking for a needle in a haystack!

It definitely takes some searching! I ordered 2 books specific to Georgia to help me. Ive been told there are a few books on uv reactive rocks and minerals. I just haven't looked yet....lol
