A rare winter hunt with Spanish, W&M, and KGiii gaming tokens

It’s been quite a while since I’ve tuned into Tnet. I haven’t been out hunting due to working away, putting family first, and just life’s crap in general.

I decided to put some new life into an old site by digging out a pile resulting from a collapsed chimney. I’ve avoided it for quite a while but it was time to dig. Helping me were my two kiddos today. We had a great time, moved about a half ton of stone, and scored some keepers.

The first decent tone was turned out to be a 1/2 reale, 178X.

Then a few tokens popped out, after chasing some mid tones through the iron.

They seemed to be cast in a tin/lead alloy.

Some usually bits and bobs. And what I think to be a William and Mary 1/2 penny. Quite the patina ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1581716129.629235.webp

In all it was a fun day with the kids. It was in the high 20’s so the weather was cooperating. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1581716279.484209.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1581716317.554093.webp

Hopefully I’ll get out a bit more now that life has settled out again. I’ll be doing a trip in March with my detecting group Basstards of Bramble. Maybe there will be something to post then.
I’ve dug quite a lot of good stuff early in the winter including lots of state coppers I never posted. Maybe I’ll make a recap post on a down day.

Enjoy and good hunts,

Steve

Steve I'm right across the street from the gap....no more beer but great food. There are 3 bars on this formerly dry island !! There slowly catching up to the 20 first century.

Hahaha, we used to zip around that island on motorcycles and all hang out there. Good to see it again.

Make the recap post we need to see these coppers! Excellent post! If I could find that stuff by moving a few tons of earth by golly i'd do it!!! Congrats on the cool stuff!

Awesome hunt! spending time hunting with your kids...priceless! :notworthy:

Thanks C Stx. The site has been averaging 1-2 coin per 1000lbs of rubble removed. Only coins and thimbles from the pile, everything else was around the edges.

Awesome results Steve. Great thing you're still able to go on a hunt, it's pretty much frozen world over here.

Congrats on the very cool finds!

Some nice history saves right there, congrats!
