Yeah right :D :D

No silver (well a worn love token) or Gold but a great day none the less. Spent only 4 hours (8 man hours) & it will be our last hunt on this particular field.

My first Firemans Button (Victorian)
Nice Livery Button- new type
17 Roman bronze Coins
5 Roman Brooches (most 1 day total for these!)
An out of shape Roman ring - decorated
Small part of a Roman Bracelet
Medieval Key

Only a few weeks ago I was saying to Dad (& Shaun7 I think), that we haven't had a nice pipetamper for some time. Well today it all changed....
I will put a link on the What Is It as I'm not sure what it represents...

Will I ever get bored of my Sunday afternoon walk, hell no ;D

Re: A Really Bad Day.......

Really Bad ;D

I love the pipe tamper :headbang: Very interesting design, how old would you think it is?

Nice count on the fibulars and as always cool buttons :hello2:

Re: A Really Bad Day.......

I just seen your other post, you really think 1790s? That just seems like something that would never turn up here. Never seen a pipe temper dug on any of my old sites.

I've yet to get my books out which have sections on these but the date is a guess. Based on the small diameter of the end which was to fit the small clay pipes, the later Victorian ones are a bit wider.

I have not dug many & my best I gave away to a US piper smoker friend, he was over the moon. I still think about my loss though :'( :D

Sounds like we've just not been lucky enough to find one. They're a very unique find so would like to see one pop up some day.

I meant pipe tempers are not a common find in general, so no surprise we haven't found one even though they date to our sites. Jeeze it took me almost 10 years to cross off a little cannon. :tongue3:

At first I thought it was a bracelet section but when I cleaned it I noticed to was an opened up ring & is complete other than out of shape. Saxon crossed my mind, I'm not sure, I know plenty of Roman Ring & dot design objects, so with it being in the centre of the Villa site, I was hedging my bets...

PS. we are running out of options pretty fast, so these posts are limited :dontknow:
