Only a few weeks ago I was saying to Dad (& Shaun7 I think), that we haven't had a nice pipetamper for some time. Well today it all changed....
I will put a link on the What Is It as I'm not sure what it represents...

Will I ever get bored of my Sunday afternoon walk, hell no

I'm a pipe smoker and that thing is fantastic. I love it. Here in the States we don't get really really old stuff like the Roman stuff.

I'm not sure if I have confused things, but I believe it dates to 1780s-1800ish.

nothing religous or special in that type sort of meaning-- its just a bit of naughty art molded into a pipe tamper -- made in a mock egyptian "art" fashion --a great bit of old naughty humor and a great find.

Great finds. When detecting it doesn't take much to satisfy...and finding just one fibula would do the trick nicely! Coins are nice but I'll take relics from any given era anytime.

...and that tamper is beyond cool!

A pipe tamper in the form of a girl with underwear at her ankles and upper clothing held between her teeth, exposing her lower body to male genitalia in front of her.
Bawdy tampers of this type were particularly popular during the second half of the 18th century. The present example is stylistically similar to UKDFD 12447, and possibly originated from the same manufacturer.
