This 8 inch three quarter groove axe found by Robert Harrison of West Liberty, Champaign County Ohio on his farm, looks almost to be damaged, and was damaged in ancient times in someway to require sharpening. The axe was likely somewhat longer than 8 inches. Salvaging the bit, the hardstone axe was chipped to shape the new bit on both faces of the axe. The bit does not appear to have been smoothed from use after the bit flaking.
I obtained this three quarter groove axe from the Robert Harrison estate sale along with a 15 inch spud, broken cleanly in half.
