A small piece of Long Island History

Spent the day at a friends hunted out property. It wasnt hunted out by me but many other detectorists over the years. He has two farm fields and a house that dates back to the 1850s. I was mostly in the field pulling up beer cans at 14" all day. Moved to the house yard after dark and pulled out this beautiful Long Island Rail Road Conductor's button. Luckily im a member of the LIRR Museum and have the resources to date such relics. 1880-1900. The back says "American RY (rail yard) Supply Co. New York". Thanks for looking!

That's neat to be a member of the museum and find a great piece of history like that.Also remember no place is ever totally hunted out Ive found stuff at parks ect that are supposedly hunted out I'm happy for you!!Thanks for sharing your great find it would be nice for a display case piece if you do that !!!!!

Thanks Mcakaydon. I guess that would narrow this button down to 1891-1900. My resources say the front design was used from 1880-1900. They changed to a different style after that.
