I knew about Douglas from my reading about the Battle for Pelelieu, arguably one of the most horrible of the Pacific War. Douglas was known in the Senate as a man of impeccable honesty and integrity. We could use a few like him today. It,s not widely known that Douglas was also a Quaker. He fit Jeff Coopers definition of a pacifist as "one who would fight for his right to be peaceful". Paul Douglas, remember the name, may he rest in peace.
