a tough one for you

My dad used to dig outhouse's in brooklyn n.y. in the early 80's. once in awhile i was allowed to go with him. my main job was to stay out of the way and trouble. i made a sifter to go thru the dirt coming out and found alot of marbles and some coins. this coin is in bad shape. it has a building on the front that looks like a courthouse or official gov building on the back is what looks like a circle with words around the outer ring can't really make the wording pictures to follow

No image yet. I'll guess on the above info that it is a store card (aka Civil War Token) and the building is a store or the Capitol Building. Lots of them were patriotic. Could the words be: "If any one attempts to haul down the American flag, shoot him on the spot"? With or without the word "DIX" in the very center?

There was a cent shortage around the Civil War and these served as pennies. Earlier ones were larger and were called "Hard Times Tokens" from the 1830's and 1840's.

I think Charlie's on the right track. My guess would be this 1860 Lincoln political medalet. Doesn't necessarily have to be Lincoln, though: medalets of the same style, with the "President's House" reverse, were also issued for his opponents, Stephen Douglas and John C. Bell.

I have a similar problem with food
