Abandoned property, owner out of state

I agree with Jeff @ PA: "Excellent post Al". But whenever someone posts with Al's notions, sure enough, someone else comes on here saying "you'll get shot, you'll get arrested, blah blah blah". Case in point: Daytona Tom, did you read Al's link? If not, read it:

Now be honest Daytona: Do you really think assasins are waiting behind every corner at these blighted abandoned properties?

I would have to say there is probably little chance of being hassled when on a piece of property like this. However, it shouldn't surprise anyone if the cops show up should it? I guess I just can't quite comprehend the idea of poking around other people's property without permission. Even if it DOES look abandoned. Again, just my opinion.

I've seen it as Blurr says...

In a govt maintained offroad recreation area, here in CA, I stopped at an old pond to see if I could catch a couple crappie out of it.

It was fenced.
On two sides...
REALLY old fencing!
And the gate was long gone.
I parked my yellow '48 Chevy sedan delivery right inside where the gate used to be...

A CHiPie came off the hiway a mile or so to advise me that if it was fenced, I was trespassing.
I kinda pointed my rod over towards the other side of the pond, and he looked...
I said, "the state bought up all the old ranches in this area, and they are tearing them all out for the dirtbike park... but I've caught no fish here, and I'm leaving anyway!"

You never know when someone is going to be enthusiastic about enforcing this law, or that one...

Its funny deepskyal when you mention about posted signs in the middle of nowhere. Some hunters I know use that trick around here to keep people away from there good spots. For it to be legit I believe, they need to put there name and address on the sign. Myself though, I have no problem with finding out who owns what, and where I can detect. What steams me are the state lands that keep us off like where grave robbers. Just thought I would put that in there ;)

Yes it was in the Papers a Few years ago Somone was Caught Posting Property
Just to Protect it from Hunters.

signs must be signed and some say they must also be notorized
but not sure on that as some post thousands when talking
thousands of acres. which no notery
on earth will notorize thousands and I doubt landowners
will sign Thousands.

And each sign must be Visible from the last one you put up.
No Holes in between to say "I didn't see one"
That is not the case in Texas. If you don't own it or have written permission. Stay off you
can an will be filed on and you will not like our jail's and the fines start at 2000.00 and
go up if there is livestock on the property and you leave a gate open it is a felony.
But mainly you don't want to get cout by the owner. most carry gun's down hear

TT you are correct.

I have some property with horses and our County laws are specific about animals, It is my job if I own them to keep them on my property.
That goes for dogs as well as the prize winning stud.
If my property is fenced and posted with no hunting signs, anyone who crosses my fence line or changes that fence line is subject to prosecution.
If your animals come on my property I can under the law soot to protect my property. And so can my neighbor.
Trust me, very little shooting occurs.
We did shoot a dog that was deviling the horses a while back.
the owner even agreed it was the right thing to do.

No hunting means just that, and no I won't shoot you, But you will still be there when the sheriff arrives, and you will lose your hunting privileges and the guns or equipment you have with you.
I won't get it but the county will keep it and the State is the one who takes the privileges away forever.
On top of that you will pay a fine and or go to jail, If you are carrying a gun it is a felony.

For the most part the law is on the land owner's side.

ASK Before you hunt....ALWAYS.

Thanks

Thom

Here's a thought. If you know the address of the owner, maybe write them a nice letter explaining what you'd like to do. Include YOUR contact information and maybe even a stamped return envelope and ask them if it's OK. If they don't go through the trouble of picking up the phone or writing H%** No on a piece of paper and mailing it back; at least you can say you made a valiant effort to ask permission.

All states and people are different but around here in ND, if it not posted then knock yourself out. Mainly refers to hunters but the way i see it is im just doin a different type of hunting. People up here also have a lot less to worry about with bad people coming along and being disrespectful. But on the other hand if you do have the persons contact info calling them may not be a bad idea.

no ones gonna get shot
use a cheapie detector like a BH mark IV so if it does get confiscated no biggie
If you get caught most likely get a ticket
if your arrested charges will be very minor
don't worry about MDers reps it already sucks
have fun and post pics.
I own lotsa land and could care less if someone hunts it as long as they don't hurt my trees.
