Abandoned stone project, or useful stone object?

I found this in Ramah, McKinley County, New Mexico.

It's very chunky and makes me wonder: Was this discarded while being worked due to some sort of flaw, or was it indeed used? Did a piece which made it this far in the manufacturing process have some sort of use?

well it's not like you could ask the "original maker" of this piece that might have knapped this keep it as a NICE find in your collection . BUT to me it appears to have been started and discarded .

I have found a couple of points similar to this. Bulky, curved and irregular. They very well could have been used. Not all points were perfect. They are a consumables after all. Could have been made in a hurry or by someone just learning. Who knows. It clearly has the shape of a point so it would end up in my collection.

I’d guess unfinished piece; possibly for practice or a flaw occurred.
I’d keep it too.

Maybe they were just checking it out to see how it would flake, if it could be thinned down, etc., then discarded it. Yeah I would have picked that up.
