just got to thinking if anyone has ever tried getting coins from car wash or acarde change machines. i know some use there own special coins now, but some still do use actual quaters. i have read that quaters aren't the most popular, but sometimes people feel froggy. but then on the other hand who wants to drive around to car wash or acarde machines all day when the bank would be faster

Car wash owners have been culling silver for years and years. I have heard guys on here try the old put a fiver in the change machine and see what you get. You are going to get state quarters by the 100's. Laundromats are the same and don't even think about vending machines(those guys invented this hobby). JP

great info, didn't even think of the laundry matt, just glad i am learning all this stuff early in CRH adventures, guess i just stick to the bank

One last bit of info for you. There have been very few silver quarters since 1964. The state quarter program has been the most popular coin collecting trick to ever come from the mint. Chasing silver quarters is by far the hardest way to search for silver.
A lot of the "Forum Friendlies" have turned to dimes for their silver fix. I realize the silver dimes stopped in 1964 also but they seem to appear a lot more than quarters. Good Luck, JP

Yeah I've even heard of people rigging up ways to get all the coins out of the machines at car washes. Afterhours of course. They set up some rig where the money goes in and they keep doing it, I want to say its attached to something so it comes back out.
I know a few months ago a car wash owner caught the guys on video and followed them for the cops. I think those guys were just after it for the money and not necessarily silver.
I'd do it at the laundromat if I still went there, but with all the state quarters it must be a pain.
