adding a hyperlink

JK, when posting, if you look at the line of characters just below the words change color next to the little pics of cameras you'll see a little globe. Click that and then add your hyper link between the marks where your cursor first shows up.

Just typing a url will create a link, but you can also try this.....

Am I right in thinking I have to type in the whole address

Nope, just highlight the address you wanna copy. Right click on it and you'll see a menu, now click on copy. Then when you go to post all you need to do is place your cursor where ever you want your link to appear. Right click there and click paste. All done you'll see the link appear and when you post it it will turn blue showing it is an active link.
