Killer, Killer point. Very nice. The material is Boyle chert for sure. Probably the MOST common lithic in your area. It comes in a WIDE range of colors...black, orange, pink, blue, purple, red, tans, creams etc. Next to Flint Ridge I do not know of many other materials in my area that can exhibit such a wide range of color. It is often loaded with fossil inclusions like crinoid and sponge material. I even find it up here in Ohio. I am sure that if you go over your stuff you will see alot of it in your collection. Thanks for showing a great piece. If I think of it I will post some of my Boyle stuff.

They are cutting and housing tobacco in Central KY now. I'm going to walk my field early tomorrow morning before it gets blistering hot. I'm hoping to find another Adena like this one. A lot of Adena points have been showing up in the field this year. I just might get lucky again.
I found out some info on the Adena people in a book that I bought. It said that the average Adena male was about 6' 5" tall and the average Adena female was about 6' tall. I guess at my height of 6' 2", I would be called "short stuff". They got this info by measuring the skeletons found in some of the burials years ago. They also had a heirarchy, which had rulers and "upper class" citizens. Then they had the "working class" citizens. This, in my opinion, could have led to their downfall as the "lower class" citizens probably got fed up with the rulers and "upper class". This could have sparked a revolution of sorts which caused an overthrow of the ruling class. The Adena people seemed to disappear from the landscape. A lot of them were probably absorbed into other tribes or maybe they formed new tribes. We can only speculate.
Hey Adena, yep it be cuttin time again.I,m going out tomorrow too. What,s the name of that book ? Sounds interesting.Do you have any idea what kind of point this is? goodluck Jeff

Hey Jeff! That looks kinda like a Kirk, but the basal end is very shallow for the type. I'll look in my books and see if I can find anything on it. The book that I have is "The Archaeology of North America" by Dean Snow. I got it off of E-bay. It is a few years old. It goes into a lot of detail about the Adena and Hopewell. A very good book if you can find it.

Good luck

Brian
