Sorry if this has been covered, as I'm sure it has, but I have been unable to find an answer. I just bought the Royal 50" folding backpacking stream sluice and am very, very pleased with the quality. I have not used it yet as I live in Wisconsin and it is still -10 degrees. Ugh. Anyway, I look at the top of the sluice and there is quite a bit of distance from the top to the first mat where it is just smooth metal. Most of what we have around here is very fine flour gold, and I am wondering if anyone would have a recommendation to add some sort of mat or moss to this stretch to help trap fine gold or not. Thank you for the advice.

I wouldn't do anything until I tried it as is.
You might be surprised... and like it just fine.
It's tough to do capture rate testing on a stream sluice.
