Had a little luck here and there and now would like to buy a Diamond tester. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

You can get em on ebay cheap.

They are cheap and well worth having. Keeps you from getting ripped off.

I got a diamond selector II on ebay.It wasn't too expensive and does a good job of identifying diamonds from CZ's .I am happy with mine.

I picked up the Presidum Gem Tester. It seems to tell the stone from others, myself i like to tell whats whats instead of just "rocks" :icon_thumleft: HH

That seems to be the most popular name in cheap diamond testers. I ordered one a couple weeks ago and I'm still waiting on it to arrive from China [I think]

I read that there's a bit of a learning curve to it? It doesn't come with a manual? There are a couple youtube videos explaining how it works and how to decipher the tones.

Looking forward to trying it out.

If you decide to purchase an inexpensive diamond tester be aware that it will be fooled by Moissanite. Moissanite is a simulated diamond that will read as a genuine diamond on a standard diamond tester. There are testers that will differentiate between the two. So if you have a tester that does not test for Moissanite then you will not know for sure if your big "diamond" is the real deal or not.

If you decide to purchase a diamond tester, I recommend that, you go with a gemologist-recommender's tester because, there are many counterfeit testers on the market that are less expensive than real ones. You can get a genuine diamond tester from a market place such as Amazon or Etsy.

Moissanite is doubly refractive, a diamond is not, you need a 10 power loupe and need to look into the side facets of the crown, the facets will appear to be doubled inside.

Some time ago, I bought a Gemlogis CIEL 3 in 1 tester. Can tell the difference between diamond, moissanite and simulant. ALTHOUGH, what is called Blue or Black diamonds will show as Moissanite or Metal on the tester due to boron or graphite or iron impurities instead of carbon atoms. More than I need to know, I wouldn't know a blue or black diamond if it hit me in the head I think. Along with it I bought something called a Gemlogis Pistachio Referential Meter, which works with the CIEL 3 in 1 diamond tester to give me an idea what a "Stone" might be, such as Ruby, Sapphire, Amethyst etc. Yup, I'm all set up, good to go. All I need now is to find SOMETHING to test.
