* After 91 years sleeping in the ground it's reunited

Hello Diggers !! Made it back to my favorite site on the weekend to dig more ww1 goodies from the suger sand.Managed to pull out 2 collar badges and a large button from a Great coat.If only the button could talk about the man who lost it and what happened to him when he was thrown into battle .I often think when I get a good military button...did the fingers that once touched it also pull a trigger and end another mans life ? Did those fingers come home from the war to touch his loved ones ? Did those fingers end up in a war grave in Europe ? This button is now reunited with all the other buttons I have dug from this site.I hope it feels at home with it's cohorts tonite.God Bless and HH...Panz

Re: * After 91 years sleeping in the ground it's reunited

That is a wonderful collection. I have always been very interested in WW1 and have read basically everything I could get my hands on as well as watching the very few available films on the subject. The best book I have read about the great war is entitled'11th Month, 11th Day, 11th Hour' by:Joseph Persico. If you are digging WW1 stuff you really should read it,thank me later. I was also very interested in where you were digging at. Is it a battlefield or a training area? You say sugar sand so Im thinking Galipoli but your location says the great white north, but your buttons are in a display that says England. Thanks for the great post and I too would really enjoy seeing any toher artifacts recovered at your spot,HH...Shoot

Whooo, looking at all those buttons is close to looking at a picture of acres of white crosses, for me.

Thanks for the pictures and thoughts. I know that the aftermath of WW1 pretty much ensured WW2, but it's amazing that the world could get into another one after "The War to End All Wars". The cost, all those shattered lives, is almost unfathomable.

Awesome collection and posting. You do those soldiers proud with remembering them like that. If only they could speak.

Actually these are all WW1 Canadian buttons except for 1 British tunic button found at the site. Some British officers were involved in training our men so that 1 button was probably from one of those officers.HH...Panz

All finds are from one area used for training and also a disembarkment point in Canada.Sorry for the confusion with the England stuff in the display case .Canada fought under the Union Jack in those days and my grandparents came from England so this is why I have included the England nostalgia to my display of buttons. Thanks for asking and for the nice comments.Much appreciated ! God Bless and HH...Panz
