My brother went to chase to get some halfs, they said you must come back later and talk to Erin, she always has some. Well he called and she said come buy and get some. So he go's on his lunch break and speaks to her. She says how many do you want, he says what ever you can spare. She says I have $20 bucks worth. He says ok I will buy them. She then opens her draw takes out a bag and dumps them on the counter, their almost all walkers and franklins. She then go;s threw them and hands him $10 bucks worth of clad only and smiles and says that is all he can have. Have a nice day. What a silver tease. Needless to say he was not happy. She must do this all the time. I told him , look at the good side. You now have a great dump bank. opinions please. HH and have a nice Holiday.

I wouldn't have bought them. I would have looked at her and said "ya right. Are you buying the rest? If not I want to". If I wasn't a member If she gave me a hard time I would have just and turned around and walked out.

If I was a bank member I would talk to the branch manager and explain how a teller is not willing to give me coins in her drawer, but is not buying them herself and I would like to buy them.

If he didn't get me the coins I would politely close my account.

I would probably complain to the manager about silly games like that. If a teller asks how many I want and tells me she has $20 worth and them dumps them on the counter and culls them right in front of me and only gives me $10 worth I wouldn't be too happy about it - esp. after making a special trip there just to buy them. That's just unprofessional childish behavior.

I 've had a bad experience with a Chase bank recently myself trying to buy some loose halves on several occasions for the last 2 months from one bank. I even scheduled appointments to buy them from the vault teller the last two times and both times when I got there I was told "she's not in yet". I was rather PO'd the last time and I spoke to the manager later that day on the phone who was very apologetic but said the vault teller didn't even have any halves so I still don't know what the hell happened to those halves - because I'm pretty sure they had some for a while but it was just impossible to get them. Anytime I do any business at that bank in the future I'm only dealing with the manager and not the keystone tellers.

I would have the major urge to throw the clads at her and walk out

Wow, forget about dump bank. I would make her your exclusive dump teller.

Hi; If you Report this incident to the Attorney Generals Office they will investigate and if they find in yur favor tey will levy a FINE against that Bank and this will GORCE those Tellers to stop theirb Hoarding Schemes. This means more silver for us. What she did was a violation of State and Federal Banking Laws and the Bank is complicite as well. This will put a STOP to tis Hoarding for sure. Also YES they do investigate and they DO find in your favor MOST of the time ok. PEACE:RONB

I would have very politely punched her right smack dab in the middle of her mouth... Over and over again until all of her teeth are either on the counter or in my knuckles..... I'm Just kidding, but I do think I would have visualized myself doing that, before I walked out and lost it-Actually, I have no idea what I would have done in that case. That would be tuff.....

dunno why some of you guys have such a grudge against people showing off their finds.....you read this message board don't you?

******NEWS FLASH********

Other people look for silver besides you

******* 2nd NEWS FLASH **********

People outside of this message board like to show / show off their finds.

Quit being cry babies and work some volume, it takes elbow grease to run a mine young grasshoppers.

Unfortunately this happens from time to time. Can't fault the tellers for grabbing silver when they come across it.

Best you can do is offer to "buy" it off the teller for under spot. If they say no, thank them for their time and walk away.

I went into a bank today that 18 rolls. One of the tellers said they had a roll if I wanted it. Of course I said yes I'd take it. She then proceeds to open the roll and pull out four halves and, "oooohhh these are silver, I'm keeping them". She then replaces the four with clads and sells the me the roll. Needless to say I looked like PopEye with steam rolling out of my ears. On the plus side, I got five 40's out of the other eighteen rolls.

Hey Slayer, sorry this happened.

If it makes you feel better, I see silver in teller trays OR hear about how they already got some that week on a FRIGGIN DAILY BASIS here in PHX.

Smartest dang tellers in the world live right here in my hometown!! Just gotta keep grinding finding the needle in the haystack.

Why stop with the AG's office? Contact the OCC, your congressman, Jamie Dimon. While your at it, tell Chase to quit manipulating silver prices.

In all seriousness, I'm sorry this happened to you.

Thanks for all the input people. I told my brother it is all part of the game. he will be dumping alot of coins on the new dump bank. HH

In my area Chase branches have the highest percentage of cherry pickin' tellers by far! I agree with others here - make it your new dump bank! :sign13: The Chase tellers brag to me all the time about the silver halves they find so I just order half boxes from them and find a god amount of keepers each week that way and don't have to deal with the acrimony of asking them for halves because I know they have already been picked clean. I also buy all their CWR of dimes and find lots of keepers in there too so it all works out for me in the end!

HH,

$ilver$urfer :hello:

The problem is bank employees shouldn't be playing games like that with their customers. There are proper and professional ways of doing business and improper and unprofessional ways of doing business.

If you call your favorite seafood restaurant and decide to make reservations for dinner because they confirmed they just got a nice fresh delivery of lobsters in and then discover when you get there and have a chance to look at all the lobsters in the tank that all the big beautiful lobsters are reserved for the restaurant employees and only the small scrawny ones are for the customers that wouldn't be and shouldn't be considered a proper way of doing business either.

Money deposited in banks is not the personal property of the bank employees (not usually). If employees are given permission to purchase money belonging to the bank it shouldn't be done at the precise moment that a customer is trying to conduct the same transaction. This is simply just an improper and unprofessional way of doing business and a bank shouldn't condone this type of behavior. If any business doesn't have a customer comes first policy then they at least shouldn't flaunt it.

Personally I would have brought this matter to the attention of the manager and if he or she confirmed that this type of behavior was in fact their policy I would have closed my account immediately (which I have with Chase) and never do business with them again - as long as they weren't the only bank in town (which they aren't - not where I live anyway).

I see these posts comparing banks to retail establishments on this forum all the time. Its a very unfair comparison because banks are NOT coin shops. They are not a retail establishment of any type whatsoever. End of story. They do not profit in any way, nor are they even in the business of, selling rolls/individual coins. Its a service they provide (usually for free) for account holders - sometimes even non-account holders - at THEIR expense. As CRHers we should be happy they're often willing to do this as otherwise we wouldn't be able to persue our hobby.

If you CRH, you will run into silver snatching tellers. There is absolutely no way around that, and its nothing to get into a tizzy over. Should I (or any of you I strongly suspect) ever find myself working in a bank, I will be one myself. With that said, it is a bit rude when they knowingly dangle silver right in front of you and then inform you that you cannot have it. But it is what it is. When you have a teller pull the silver and then try to sell you only the clad, then you absolutely have the right to refuse to purchase them.

Just cross that bank off the list for awhile and move on. Its as simple as that.

Any business (and their employees) that has customers should treat their customers in an appropriate and professional manner regardless of the particular transaction or situation - period. If any business is either unwilling or incapable of doing this then they most likely won't get my business - and nor should they. This isn't a complicated concept and should apply to any and all businesses regardless of the particular business industry.

The situation as described above should have been brought to the attn. of the bank manager. No business should condone an employee that is playing games with customers, wasting their time or any other type of similar blatantly rude or unprofessional conduct.

Here is the problem I have. Yes it is fine that a teller picks out silver and keeps it. That is all good, but the problem comes in when they keep it in the tray, or bag. If it is in the tray/bag it is the banks coin at that time, not the tellers. If the teller wants to pull that silver they need to exchange it like we do, and remove it from the bank tray/bag. Now if they want to show off their finds that is fine, but do not go into their own personal bag to take out coins. I came to do business with the bank, not a specific teller. If I wanted things from their collection I would set up an appointment outside of their work to try to get their coins.

+1

Bank employees should conduct their personal transactions on their own time and as I stated above - if employees are given permission to purchase money belonging to the bank it shouldn't be done at the precise moment that a customer is trying to conduct the same transaction - that is just inappropriate and unprofessional to say the least. In a situation like this the money belongs to the BANK - it's not the teller's personal stash.

If a customer comes into a bank and requests some nice $100 bills (or whatever denomination) so they can perhaps be used for Christmass gifts and the teller then proceeds to count out the bills but sorts out the nice crisp bills for themselves (perhaps the teller decided to do the same thing) and only gives the customer the old worn out bills then that would be equally inappropriate.

I agree...if you are a teller and want to pick silver, get it bought and take it to your car.

Do not dangle it in front of people and taunt them with it.

While I agree that banks are not retail stores, it is very frustrating all the same. I've been to stores where everything is supposed to be for sale, but when you try to buy it, all you hear is "I'm saving that one" and "we are holding that for our daughter", etc.
