Age of button

[IronCityDetector]

I found this neat domed button at an old home site. Can anybody give me an age on it or is it too general to date? It's non-ferrous. The site dates to at least 1857, but I suspect it was there even longer; possibly early 1800s. Size compared next to the 1857 flying eagle cent I also found there.

It's a ball button. I think of them as about 1820s to 40s.

[Spats]

Also known as Zouave or cadet button. Many are found in Civil War sites and I think they may still be in use at West Point.
