🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Brass screw lid?

Found today near Petersburg Va. initially I thought it was some sort of clothes fastener until I saw threads on underside. Site has produced CW items, along with farm and household goods. Best I can read it says “pat Nov 24 1857 extended Nov 4? 1871 (or possibly 1874). Based on the last date, being earliest manufacture, it’s not military(at least not CW). Any ideas appreciated.
