My experince with the Explorer has shown me that the Alkalines last as long as the rechargeables if not longer.

So I would say you would more than likely get between 15-20 hours out of your batteries.

At least that's my experience with the Explorer

You should get more than a days hunting out of it, but I don't know how long your days are. ::) By not using rechargables, the power will run down slowly an let you know when to replace them.

You best bet is to find a NIMH pak battery of near 1600 ah. This is what I use and got it from Sunray years ago.

Thank you, both. I'm glad to hear it. I'd hate to cross the state for a weekend of hunting only to have it crap out on me. I'll look into that battery pack upgrade, Sandman.

the only other thing to say is that I keep extra batteries with me at ALL times.

That is the Easiest solution

the alkaline pack is also submersible to about 10 ft.

That's what I understand, Earthling. Frankly, I'd be nervous about submerging it at all. I've dived the Excal with the standard battery pod and the only danger there was getting too engrossed. My computer let me know when it was time to stop MD'ing and start surfacing.

yea... i had one on mine but i only used it for surf and snorkel as long as when i was snorkeling i wasnt more than, coil touching the bottom deep, when everything was fully extended... the ALK batt compartments are very sturdy and waterproof you shouldnt have any problems.... just remember to use silicone grease on the O-ring every time you change the batts..... you can also get lower shafts that are 4 - 5 ft. long by themselves and use them for snorkel MDing in about 6 - 8 ft. or water... its a lot of fun and very relaxing..... i usually just carry a hand beach scoop for that and when i hit a target dive down a scoop it up
