Well, I'm gonna get it back to "the lab" for closer examination before I start buying rounds. Chinese fakes are getting better. Well, some of them... (update: it checks out, correct weight and dimensions within usual tolerances)

Can anyone spot the problem with this ASE?

Yeah, apart from the fact that it looks like crap and was obviously cast, silver eagles weren't minted until 1986. I've seen others like it since with a date of 1906, so they're getting closer! They use the Walking liberty design, of course, but that didn't even appear until 1916.

The story is kinda funny... Someone had ordered a pair of shoes from a Chinese eBayer and this came in the box instead. They posted it on a coin forum asking if it was real and had any value. Apparently the Chinese make their counterfeit coins in the same factory as their counterfeit shoes.
