Just a story to remind people to be polite and thankful...

There's a bank near me where I pick up only one box of dimes a week.

I am always polite and know the tellers by name and have fun talking with them because I usually come in during down time.

I purchased an ASE for $28 a few months back from the teller. She remembered I collected silver and saved me a silver dime. I got a Subway gift card, even though it was more than the value of the dime, for thinking of me and saving it.

I came back, and she told me another teller not on shift got some old halves and saved them for me.

I went there today and the teller saved me a Ben and a 40% Ken. She sold them to me at face value and said she likes Subway too

So now they know not only that I collect, but that I'll give them a fair price or good compensation for coins.

Remember that, guys!

What do you think she does with her subway gift card? She probably uses that gift card, to drain the clear-plastic dime column at the fancy-cash register, which has tons of silver. She uses the excess dimes to buy her meal, and gives you the ones that are Ag; all so she can keep getting gift cards to repeat the process all over again. She eat's for life, you get silver for life, win-win scenario.

Be nice to those tellers. I've had them save 40%'s for me, just because I was polite and friendly at all times.

Read through posts and the Beginner's guide to get a feel for these things. A 40% is a 65-70 half dollar with lower silver content.

accordselux thanks again. I thought it had to do with silver content in coins. Was unaware that it was only halves it applied to though. I got a pile of coin going to the bank and wanted to make sure no goodies got by. 65-70 halves only, made my day easier as there are no halves lol
