This morning at the motel I stayed at as was loading up to get on the road. I was walking to the lobby for my continental breakfast and I always look at the parking lots as I walk back and forth. I may find a penny, dime, quarter & maybe a sterling earring or piece of cheap jewelry and quite a few working BIC lighters or a good pens. This time its gold. A little earring run over it is. Can't be more then 1/4 gram 14K. This is the second time I found a gold item in a parking lot. The time before was a 10K ring with a small diamond. It was also run over and smashed. Always keep looking down! I find stone artifacts in this same way, but not in parking lots. I think folks think I'm a crackpot when I go to the grocery store. They may think I lost my marbles as I look all over ground, but they don't know who I am so, who cares.

Same day I found a 14kt gold earring, got $26.00 for it! Also found a smashed sterling silver ring the same day a coupl of feet from the earring. Best find in a parking lot was $127.54 in of all things, a baseball cap!

I found a cheap ring in the parking lot, where I used to go to church. It had either been run over or stepped on, but I turned it in because it was church and because I thought it might have sentimental value. This was probably 25 years ago, so it would be worth a lot more now. I think it was 10k. But, 16-17 years ago (I know because my now 17 and 19 year olds were babies) I found a 14k gold Omega bracelet in a parking lot. I turned it in, too, but gave my contact information in case it wasn't claimed. :D I still have it, I could have gotten over $500 when gold cost more, but I was waiting for it to hit $2,000/ounce. All that to say, I agree, check the parking lots!

Funny you should bring this up!! I thought I was the only one that paid attention to lost parking lot finds. I have found more lost items in the parking by just paying attention to the ground as I walked to the entrance of the store.

I found a 14k anniversary ring with 3 diamonds in a parking lot. When I got home and showed it to my wife, end of story.

I've always told my daughter when you're walking in the parking lot look at the ground you can find money that way. In Chino was never interested until one day walking and I looked down and go Yea! A $20 on the ground! All crumpled up. The best find ever though I went in to a bank and there was a black bag on the ground. I picked it up and opened it and it was full of diamonds! I looked around and there are so many cameras and I thought turning it in was definitely the right thing to do. So first I walked up to the teller and asked her if she would go on a date with me. She said no but thank you for asking. Then I said what if I give you a bag of diamonds.... She laughed and said show me. And I gave it to her, well I guess they belong to a lady that had a lot of bags of them. She didn't even know she dropped them. Well I took my name and said they would contact me if the lady left a reward because They knew who they belong to right away. I go in there a week later and the girl told me that the diamonds in the bag were worth $200,000. And that the owner left me a card with a reward in it for turning it in. Now I'm not bitter about this but I thought it could've been a little more generous. But there was a $20 bill and a two dollar bill. With a note saying to save the two dollar bill because it would be worth a lot of money someday!! If I can find the card I'll add a picture of it on here.

Sorry I guess I have to spellcheck before I put my postings up here!

Someone posted on a thread here (Eagledown I think) about a fellow who would go to empty parking lots at sunrise. He would scan the lots toward the sun and find diamonds. Seems they fall out of jewelry and cast a bright reflection when the sun catches them right. Worth a try or two.

Thats wild!...I found a 2 gram big hoop earrign a couple years ago in teh Walmartz Parking lot....I stay looking down..lol

Found a 20 dollar bill once outside my hotel in Kansas City. It was in the ashtray and I glanced down and it caught my eye. The only part I saw was the corner. It was underneath all that stuff where you put you put your cig out. Anyway, my cousin picked me up and I used it at the casino. By the way, next time I go to KC I am taking my detector and go digging around Westport.

My favorite money/stuff finding venture was when I used to work at the ticket booths of several popular concert venues. I would get off at 1 am, and the shows all went until 2 AM. I would weave through the crowd checking the ground, and I would find $10-$50 every time, dropped by tired, dancing drunk people. Not to mention the lighters, sunglasses, and handfuls of change. I probably have several dozen lighters, including a couple zippos that just sit on a shelf. I never thought to pick up jewelry, but in hindsight it was definitely there.

Check the edges of parking lots near bank ATM's. Twenty dollar bills get blown out of peoples' hands and wind up against the fence or landscaping roots.

I usually check the curbs in front of bars when I'm walking the dog on Saturday or Sunday morning. Crumpled bills are often lost when folks pull out their car keys.

Good luck to all,

Best I ever found on a parking lot was seven $1 bills.

My son found a $20 bill on the shelf of a local thrift store.

I heard the night clubs and bars are good when the snow and ice melt. Although it never snows where I am so I can not confirm that!

Might be abit off topic but there was a guy here or on another board that would collect the full vacuum cleaner bags at self service car washs , always was finding stuff like earings , diamond ear studs ect looked messy to do but seemed to work

Walking thru a casino in Reno Nevada many years ago...saw a poker chip on the floor. Scarfed it up in one quick, smooth move. Never missed a step :) Went straight to the window and got a sawbuck.
