Been too messy and wet and cold to hunt lately so spent part of yesterday going through some older flat buttons and items and noticed a faint lettering on one that I hadn't cleaned. Turns out to be a riflemans button produced between 1808 and 1812. Always check them for lettering, designs etc. This is the oldest identifiable button I've found to date!! Thanks for looking and happy hunting!
