ALWAYS check your flat buttons!!!!

Been too messy and wet and cold to hunt lately so spent part of yesterday going through some older flat buttons and items and noticed a faint lettering on one that I hadn't cleaned. Turns out to be a riflemans button produced between 1808 and 1812. Always check them for lettering, designs etc. This is the oldest identifiable button I've found to date!! What information led you to your finding? Would be so cool and im doubting what im saying here, if it was from Roger's Rangers from the Revolutionary war

just cleaned it with soapy water and a toothbrush and I think it's copper

What a great button I always check my buttons,usually anything that's hidden is on the back
