Always check your "junk" finds!

I was sorting through some "junk" finds yesterday and came across a piece I originally thought was lead. Turns out it is several coins melted together, most are silver. I can't read much on any of the coins, one appears to read LEOPOLD and I can make out a 1 and an e on a seperate coin. Found this item in a field here in Germany. Anyways, it shined up good and displays pretty nice.

Something like that is strange to find in a field. Maybe there was a very old homesite there that had burned down. Might wanna go back.

I sure hope the coins weren't in someones britches when they were melting :o. I did find a few other nice pieces in that field , however , a friend of mine has been doing the grid search routine around that immediate area and I'm gonna let him have it.

I'm not sure when then was. I found 2 other coins in that field, copper 1 pfennig from 1875 and an aluminum 50 pfennig from 1922. There is so much history here that it's hard to tell. :-\

The coins or the fish? ;D I'm guessing that bass was around 6 lbs. came out of a lake near Camden, SC. I can't fish much in Germany, so I had to take up MDing to keep from going knutz. The wife threatened to kill me if I start anymore hobbies.

I hear you on the hobbies ;D

Bring those coins back to the states, make some high end jigs with them.

You put me on a 6# Largemouth in S.C. and I'll show you some smallies close to 6 in Lake Erie in NY!!

The one in the pic was 3-12 from the Mohawk River in NY

Definitely keep it!

Years ago I'd dig these melted coins and just toss them because I didn't know what they were. These are often found at the site of some old tragic fire or maybe they were melted on purpose. I'd not sure a house fire could generate enough heat.

anyhow king leupold the II of belgium is known for killing half the population of the congo in the 1850s-1870s.
its more than likely him as his reign was from 1835 until 1909
