specific gravity test equates to 1.04 oz of gold... found 3 little ones and this one all in a perfect line!!!!!! and in line with the rest i found the other day....a big thankyou to ray mills for being so generous with sharing your wealth of knowledge.

Congratulations beekbuster on joining the one oz club... I don't see why not, in fact if anything I much prefer to see "specimen" gold and silver over nuggets as a rule. It's so much more interesting to view and speculate about.

I hope you don't fiddle too much with it's pristine natural look by giving it too much acid treatment... as we see so often on the forums. Some acid maybe to clean it up a bit and expose a bit more gold. But otherwise I would leave it be.

You must be really thrilled with that piece. I sure would be too!!!!! WTG

i have only cleaned it with a tooth brush, that is all. i dont want to regret any modification i make to it. there isnt much of it showing, but every little speck has continuity, so i am ecstatic.

Way to score some great gold.

Torch it with MAP gas and shock it in cold water might produce an even more spectacular piece ,or you may end up with lots of little pcs..lol

Now you need to start hunting for the lode these came from.

this did not come from a lode. the quartz seam is completely eroded and is nothing more than soil with some rocks that havnt fully deteriorated yet. this layer sits on top of the shale bedrock. this piece was only 2-3" deep. none of the gold here was more than 6" deep

Hey beekbuster, lovely specimen ! Would you be able to discuss how you found the sample, detector type and settings, dowsing rods or your dog dug it up! We are all spellbound by the pictures though I've not seen anyone ask how it was located so I thought I would. Exposing more gold won't devalue it. It most likely will increase its value to a collector.

Who wants a rock they "know" has more gold in it.

I would etch it with weak acid it will brighten up the quartz.

If you have continuity you can soak for a long time and end up with a cool fully exposed gold form

Taking some of the quartz off will get you a more accurate spec gravity weight as well.


Oh by the way since I got mine for a specimen with less gold in it I vote
