Me, my fiance and one of her friends took a trip to Connecticut on the first week of July. We stayed with some good friends in Milford CT about a 30 second walk from Walnut Beach. The next day we went to New York, Liberty Island, ect. We spent the 4th on the beach mding and got to see some awesome fireworks. Before I left for CT, I tried to contact someone on tn to take me out to some old sites. So I sent out an e-mail to see if anyone would respond. Surprisingly no one would respond so I started contacting people directly. My first contact was Sniffy, but our schedules didn't mesh, so then there was HEAVYMETALNUT :headbang:. Ironically he knew Sniffy, so we talked several times and he offered to take off work and make sure that he got me to some old sites(WOW). I met up with him at his house on the 6th. He showed me his collection of totally awesome finds and even let me hold his 3 GW buttons :tongue3:. And off we went. We spent all day hitting cellar holes and getting lost in the woods. It was totally amazing to see and walk in the old areas he took me to. So old and a little spooky. HEAVYMETALNUT took the time to take a total stranger out and even was even apologetic that I didn't find the large cent I was hoping to find. But I found some cool stuff and if anybody wants a lesson on how to treat a fellow metal detectorist and head banger or a lesson on HEAVYMETAL, he's your man. I can't say in a word how thankful and what a privilege it was to meet and roam the woods with him. THANKS! Im starting with pictures of some of our antics on the trip. Second is beach finds -civil war button. Not sure what type -2 parts of spoons. I did a blowup of the back marks. Not sure if they are silver -10 wheats, 1907 barber dime, 195? dime, and 1947 dime -2 lead buttons?- And my first 18 karat ring. I need to know about the text inside. It reads (paula a romolo 21-4-51 750 and a hall mark I cant make out) I'm hoping it's earlier than 1951??? Next is cellar hole finds - 1921 penny -and a few buttons. Any info?? Next is from a trip to Mystic CT - lead soldier - 1960 dime. Can anybody help with dating ring? Thanks for viewing and for any info or comments .

CT seems to be the hot spot this weekend! ... :headbang:

Did you say those two items are lead buttons? They remind me of LC's that were holed after they wore thin. I found a King George holed that way once. But you did say they were lead though :icon_scratch:. Did you stop at Mystic Pizza? We just took a vacation down the coast a few weeks ago. We stayed in Mystic one night and visited an old fort in New London, CT. Had the detector but didn't visit there long. Glad you got to get out, looks like you did some decent digging and Heavymetalnut seems like a pretty good guy who finds some great old stuff.

thanks Mike! it was a pleasure detecting with you! you are a pro with that Garrett and did well at the colonial sites despite the lack of targets.anytime your up this way again feel free to gimmee a call. Glad you had a safe trip back and some nice finds recently!

Uh....did you find the three buttons in the 11th picture down on this trip? You do know what they are don't you???

http://kirkmitchell.tripod.com/CobbGW

Values of each range in the $2500-$3500 range and could go for more....DON'T clean them!!! Take us a clear picture and I'll be the first to vote BANNER for you!

My bad! I missed that somehow...still AWESOME buttons...and some good finds for yourself. Take care.

Nice finds! I was only a few miles away from you in Middlebury this weekend...No detector but shot some nice nature photos.

The ring is 18K (.750). The anniversary date is April 21, 1951. I do not think that a ring from 1851 would be marked 750 on it. One thing I found online is:

"hallmarks officially started in the US in 1906. Before that year, many misleading marks were used. In the 1800s there were rings marked "SOLID GOLD" and many of these are still in circulation."

I also agree with the post that said the buttons look like Large Cents. Many large cents ended up having other uses after the transition to the small cent in 1857. Take a closer look!
