Good evening!

Today I went out to an early spot that was an old cabin site from the late 1700's-early 1800's.

In the past week I've dug some great finds here including an 1852 seated half dime and a 1783 Nova Constellatio.

This time out I felt like changing it up and running my Simplex in field mode....Giving the Equinox a break from action. I dug the usual bits of lead ect then got over a solid signal in the high button range. I dug the signal and about 5" down in the sidewall I saw a silver rim and it looked small....like half real or half dime kind of small. After plucking the silver disc from the sidewall I felt resistance and saw a link stuck to the back! Cufflinks! I said out loud.

I popped the whole piece out with my hand digger and while spraying off with water I see the discs were actually Spanish silver coins! One 1736 and a 1742 half real. Still in shock over this find. Best Spanish silver spill I could ask for! Thanks for looking and HH to all!

Very cool! I've seen a number of similar cufflinks posted with Spanish Reale "motifs" but they aren't physical coins. If yours are actual coins, that's very neat. Congrats!

That is AWESOME! Congrats!

Very cool to find a linked pair of those John. I have found a linked pair of the Spanish coin "facsimile" cufflinks. I have also found three half reals that were once cufflinks, two of which went back into circulation as money,

Hello Steve. Yes, your Spanish silver collection is quite impressive! Those are awesome finds. I really appreciate the personalized items....

It's been a while....I hope you and the guys are doing well. Tc.

What a dream find (for some) the early colonial factor to them is top shelf.
Congrats on the recovery
I got my first engraved pair of silver links just a year ago- still one of my best special finds.

Very Cool!!!! Congrats!!!!

Sweet dig. As others have said. I once found a 1759 half real that had been converted to a button then converted back to circulation. Never seen a complete set though.

Nice double globe 1/2 Reale cufflinks, back when the Spanish Empire ruled half the planet these coins were commonly repurposed for all sorts of things and circulated in most countries alongside local coins. The cufflinks are likely contemporary to the period. You sometimes see Spanish silver coins made into buttons and most famously the silver badges of early Western lawmen.

Thanks! That's crazy to me. You can tell what these coins meant to people back then. Gotta love it.
