Hi everyone. I hunted all day yesterday at 2 Chicago parks that date to the late 1800s/early 1900s. My best find of the day was a WWI dog tag. The servicemans name is Pvt. Julius J. O'Hara. Apparently he served with B battery 51st artillery regiment, coast artillery corps. His service number is 14814. If anyone can find any info on surviving relatives, I'd greatly appreciate it as I would like to return this to them. Thank you. Pics below.

OMG Paul!!. . . wonderful find . . . that might be earlier than WWI as all the WWI tags I've seen have been round.

Maybe Spanish American War era (WAG)? I'm sure someone may have additional info for dating.

Looks older then WWI. But not sure. That is a great find. :icon_thumleft:

Excellent find. Good luck on finding family members.

:icon_thumright: Cool find but it is WWI they issued that style from 1917-18. Good luck on the family search! :headbang:

I checked on Ancestry and I think this might be his record in Ohio Soldiers in WWI - the # shows as "48147" but I think the first number is cut off and could very well be a "1". Could your tag have a "7" at the end?

eta - here it is in better form. There was a "1" missing :icon_thumleft:

That's definitely the guy!! There's a 7 as the last digit of his service number; it's partially hidden by corrosion on the tag. Now I have to check Columbus, Ohio for relatives.....Thanks A LOT Bramblefind!!! :notworthy:

Try calling the cemetery. They may have a list of surviving relatives (of course this would be as of 1954). Good luck on finding the family.
