(SOLVED) American Button Co.

Hello everyone,

Was out on a hunt yesterday, Stardate -306822.70966150577, and found a button from American Button Co. I am having difficulty determining the year in which the button was manufactured. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I know the seal on the front belongs to the City of Philadelphia. I am trying to determine what type, if any, uniform it came from and era.

Thanks

UnQle Rob, welcome to T-Net and the "What Is It?" forum, the best place on the internet to get unkown objects CORRECTLY identified. Your button with the Philadelphia (PA) City Seal was worn by various "officials" of the city, and sometimes by Police Officers.

According to the book "American Military Button Makers And Dealers; Their Backmarks & Dates" (the best book on backmark-dating), the American Button Company (Newark NJ) began making uniform buttons in 1901. The factory burned in 1917 and the company ceased to exist in 1920.
