Well the reason i don't email the network or the sponsors.. IS ... If i don't care for a show i just don't watch it........ And just because i don't like it....... There are a lot of viewers out there that like it........So i let them watch it .... How many times do i have to say this ................. It is like i don't like guns so let's pass a law so no one can have guns.....That means i don't like the show so lets not let the ones that like it watch it .............my ideas of what i like and don't like should be what every one thinks ............... Or i like guns so i think if you don't like guns you must be crazy what is the matter with you............... All you one's on the forums that think that way would do good in a Communist country. Because there way is only one way...

I Have heard a lot of complaints about this show, and i agree its a disgrace to our hobby, but sending an email to spike tv isnt going to stop it. You have to send an email to the sponsers of the show, you know the ones who pay for commercials. If everyone did that then it will get pulled quick.

I'm not saying you're complaining about it, but how is it a disgrace to our hobby? I think it's just the opposite! It's great show. My kids love it! They detect sites with owner's permission and talk about the history of the place. They share their finds with the owners/archeologists and have fun while doing it. They respect the owner's right, follow the law and research the history of the site.

What am I missing? If anything, they represent the hobby as good as a detectorist can represent.

I don't want to argue, but this is an internet site and there is free speech. If someone watches it and wants to give their opinion why bring communism into it?

Because of freedom of speech that's why, if someone gives their opinion we give ours, I might not like your opinion but you don't have to like mine but I don't lose any sleep over that. Have a nice day everyone, no matter what your opinion is!!

I've found JUICE!!!!

Yeah, the terminology is pretty quacky. My wife hates them jumping around and into trees. Alot of it is for the show. They seem to be having a great time - I like DIGGERS. Not to fond of AMERICAN DIGGERS. What I don't like about the AMERICAN DIGGERS show is it's all dramatized/recreated for the show.

I love the history lessons.

Here is my two cents. I've seen American Diggers once and thought the drama was way over the top to the point of being obnoxious. I do like Diggers but again all of the jumping around and hanging out of trees is a bit silly too. But let's face it, watching a couple of guys walking around swinging metal detectors isn't exactly what one would call jaw dropping exciting. Also the finds on Diggers seem a little rigged at times.

Your somewhat right but very -very confused in my opinion . What your missing is obvious and if you can't see it yourself then know one will be able to make you fully understand the damage this show does to the hobby . First of the show is produced and most of their finds are set up by the producers and directors . Think about it and what they find and how they find it . They are anything but a good representatives , in fact they are poor representatives . There is no real good in showing a show that in realistically is impossible for 98% of the real hobbyist's and falsely represents them in almost every way from locations , equipment , and finds ... also in cash flow . Having producers and directors plus sponsors providing them with locations and prior knowledge of the area is just the tip of the iceberg . I have only viewed this show three times and each time I had to change the channel . Do you really believe that they make blind calls ?? Do we have the financial backing of a large cable channel ?? Can you get anyone to give you permission to bring in a backhoe to recover something your not sure of ?? Have you ever seen a area left like it was found after using a backhoe ?? The property owners are not only being paid from the Savages but also from the sponsors . And the producers have to show some disappointments just to make it more watchable . Do you really believe they know every archaeologists personally well enough to just give them a call ?? They are a salvage company that uses metal detectors and are not a good representative of anything but themselves and they have to follow the owners rights , laws , and for this show someone else does their research on site history to make the show interesting for viewers , period . I hope now you can see what your missing , and that's what's behind the seen . And they don't represent anything that comes close to what my friends and I have been doing for years . And I have 33 years in this hobby , how many do you have under your belt ? The biggest backers of them are their sponsors and those are the manufactures cause they increase sales and cash is their goal , not representation of the hobby . In 1982 almost all sites where open to detect and every year they get smaller and smaller because of people whom misrepresent this hobby and disrespect it . They pick up a detector thinking they'll get rich and when they find out there is more to it than just sweeping the ground eventually they leave the areas damaged and cause legislation that ban's many others from hunting areas .
I'm not replying to your post to argue with you cause I respect your opinion but see these type of shows as completely bogus , as bogus as any "reality" show that is farther from "reality" than real life . IMHO , Woodstock

Might as well add my 2 cents.

I think both shows are pretty bad. That being said I do have them recording on my DVR and will have them on while I surf T-net and other sites some evenings. Both are kind of train wrecks so I guess I watch them for that.

1) The Rick Savage show is downright terrible, he always negotiates a tough 75-25 split and has to make some money or he is going broke. Then he digs crap like an old car air filter out from under some cement and it is filled with silver and gold coins. Pretty pathetic - I do watch it for the stupidity.

2) The digger guys act like a couple of fools with thier stupid lingo - "I got civ" or "another tok in the poc" and other annoying stuff. They hop around like idiots when they find something. Then they always have a stupid bet/challenge. I guess they are trying to make it entertaining but it is rather dumb. I also like their potential value of stuff, they dug a 1917 wheat the other day and list it as $4 value. Maybe if was MS-60 not all encrusted in dirt, also saw a common V nickle one show potential value $275 instead of the $1 they might get. Still a better show than the rastler, but that's not saying much.

I agree with some who mentioned earlier if you don't like don't watch it. TV is filled with all kinds of reality/schlock anyways- always has been. I used to watch "In search of" as a kid in 70's and thought it was great.

Can't wait for the ground to thaw so I can spend sometime dirtfishing instead of watching some nimrods do it.

HH,

Pete

I agree Jeff but the internet and free speech somehow always seems to either communism or porn even if that isn't the topic . It's like the blind leading the blind and those whom can't see will never see the harm a show like this can do .If it was a show based on stalkers there'd be watchers and those who defend there right to watch it even if it's distasteful and misrepresents most of us . But your right cause the post (at least the latter part)is off subject to myself as well .

Hey Pete ... So you can't believe that Detroit show either ... cause that's the one that stopped me from watching it even for the stupidity of it . And I think it was a automatic tork converter and not a air filter . How about the one where they dug a revolver buried for over 120 years that the cylinder still spun and the trigger still pulled back . I hontest watched it three times and couldn't watch it till the end ... yes it's totally lame and a obvious jerk of our chains ... I'm glad to see that common sense still prevails for some of us ! Rigged sometimes ? No, I'd say all of the time . Woodstock

Wake up man , both the shows demean the hobby and both are far from reality . And as long as every metal detector manufacture makes better sales because of it , it'll be here . Other than that you'd need 10's of thousands on a petition to have the show pulled ... just a reality check . HH, Woodstock
