Is there a particular brand of headphone that has an amplification unit built in?
I mean that runs on AA batteries or something.
I have severe tinnitis and don't hear real well.
I do use a detector and I'm sure I am only digging fairly loud signals.
I have been looking at the Tesoro Tejon because of it's tone adjustment which I think would be great as I can hear certain tones better than others and being able to adjust the tone would do wonders but I also think amplified headphones would be a big plus.
I have looked online and all the ones I find seem to just amplify bass which is not really what I am looking for.
A headphone with a separate battery power supply and volume control would be a great improvement for me.
I'm sure I can't be the only older guy with hearing problems who metal detects.
Any suggestions?

You might try Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/s/?tag=treasurenet01-20

I have hearing lose due to firing automatic weapons and blowing things up so I use Detector Pro Black Widow phones. They cup the ears well for comfort and provide more volume than I can stand.

Thanks, That is the source of my hearing loss as well.
Way to much automatic weapons fire,
What I don't understand is why the ringing gets louder as i get older even though I am very careful about protecting what hearing I have left now.

I don't think we hear it louder, we just listen better.

I have Minere's disease so I almost have constant tinnitus. I always concerned that I'm missing the low tones, I have significant hearing loss in my right ear so I have to adjust the volume accordingly. My White's headphones don't fit snug around my ears, maybe I'll give the "Black Widows" a try. Thanks Rich.

Like Sandman, I lost some of my hearing due to lots of automatic weapons fire. I bought the Detector Pro Black widow headset for just that reason. They work great.
