An 'amateur archaeologist' found a 2000 years bp Roman dagger (and associated battle site, it appears) in Switzerland.

The dagger is one of hundreds of objects uncovered on the ancient battlefield.

The finds – including a dagger, well-preserved slingshot stones, coins, nails and part of a shield – are assumed to have been left on the battlefield after a clash between Romans and a local tribe at around 15BC.

I would love to find something like that. The article says"thanks to the persistence of an amateur archaeologist...." in this country it would read,"No thanks to this looter band of treasure hunters, real archaeologists now have a real job to perform...." go figure.

Correct, the USA's laws are designed to erase/hide its history. In doing so, many items are destroyed/melted/blackmarket etc etc...

The system is designed take from the finder with NO restitution. Sad really....

Amateur historians and treasure hunters know more about the USA's history than all of the professors in America combined.

Just think what the professional treasure hunters know? ...wink wink
