An Elk, What is it?

[flyinryan2]

I found this near an 1800's home with CW relics nearby. its copper on the front but iron on the back. its about 1.5"L x 1.5"W.
Any ideas?
Ryan.

We need to see the back to make a good determination. But it may be a horse rosette.

I agree with the others. Its a horse item representing the European Red Deer or Red Stag that is so often depicted on hunting items and livery buttons. It looks like prongs on the backside for attaching to leather. http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/w...buckle-vermont-militia-civil-war-earlier.html
