An elusive "D" coin & Ridley's luck shines on me!

Had three hunts today.
Hunt #1- Hit the farm today at break. Only found two ticks!

Hunt #2- Hit a tot lot at lunch. Found some clad an an elusive "D" coin. At first I thought it was an old 1800's coin when I saw a shield on it. Then I thought it was a "D" nickel. Then once I cleaned it up a bit, I saw the "Denver" on it. Now my question is.....is the a Bob Denver coin, or a John Denver coin

Hunt #3- Ridley and I hit a school tonight where he had found a silver ring yesterday. Some of his luck must have transfered over to my Tesoro, because I found two rings! One is just a junk metal ring that has Chinese or Japanese writing on one side & "PEACE" on the other side.
The first ring I found though was a small .925 silver pinky ring. Yeah Baby!!! It's not a monster ring, but I'll take it.
Found some other trinkets too.

Ridley found two nice pieces of jewelry tonight too, so look for his post. He was actually nice enough to let me pull one of them out of the hole. I wish I had brought my camera.

The tokens were included with mint sets at one time. Each mint produced it's own token. Someone opened the mint set. Daddy's gonna shine someone's bottom when he finds out.

They may have been sold/given out on munt tours, also.

Thanks Charlie. When did they stop putting these in mint sets? No date on this, so I have no idea how old it is? 1960'S? 1970'S?

Now that I don't know. I do know that prior to 1959 (a good year) the mint sets were just in a cardboard holder with a paper cover. After that they started to seal them in plastic. Then some years later a couple clever entrepeneurs came along and bought mint state bags of coins and assembled "mint" sets that were not truly sets prepared at the mint (see the difference) so the Treasury started adding the tokens.

The "coin you found with the D and denver mint on the one side and US Treasury on the other side is the medal out of the old mint year sets. The set came in an envalope with a set of coins from the Philly Mint and a set from the Denver Mint. Each set was sealed in celophane and each included one of those medals to identify the mint they came from.

Those tokens are in the 1984 to 1998 and the 1999 only 50 states P and D mint set. 2000 on they were omitted.
