An ol copper cross. Frlends find.

A friend of mine found this old cross near Quebec, Canada that I believe being a very old type. I was wondering if someone found anything similar. I have seen similar ones found in Europe that were 16-17 century I don't know if later they used a similar design.

Amazing looking. The word above Jesus looks like INRI. INRI stems from the Latin phrase 'Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum' meaning 'Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews'. This was the notice Pontius Pilate nailed over Jesus as he lay dying on the cross. A nun once told me it was found to be offense and I should not have had it on my picture

It sure is a great find. I hope we'll be able to ID it. But I believe it might be Fur Trade related.

Fantastic crucifix! It appears to be an Irish Penal Crucifix. From what info I could find these were originally produced between 1695-1823. I have not found an example as nicely detailed as this one though. There are modern made examples but I have no doubt yours is from the right time period. Great find!
